Honoring Patricia VanHaverbeke
Our Inspiration
Patricia “Pat” VanHaverbeke’s journey with Alzheimer’s disease and the remarkable way her family came together to support her inspired the founding of Changing Perspectives Institute.
Pat passed away on March 4, 2025, at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of family unity and resilience that continues to guide our work.
Family Story:
What made Pat’s story particularly meaningful was how her three children—Debra, Timothy, and Reverend Kenneth—each contributed their unique skills to provide compassionate care throughout her Alzheimer’s journey. Their collaborative approach exemplifies the power of family teamwork in navigating the challenges of dementia care.
Memorial Fund Impact:
Through the generosity of those who knew and loved Pat, a memorial fund was established that has helped launch our Memory Cafe program. This community-based initiative creates a welcoming space where individuals with memory challenges and their care partners can find connection, support, and joy—continuing the spirit of care that defined Pat’s final years.
“Pat’s story reminds us that behind every dementia diagnosis is a full life lived and a family forever changed. At Changing Perspectives Institute, we honor her memory by supporting families on similar journeys.”
